Jerry & Rachel Witt

Jerry & Rachel, along with their three little girls, are based in Durango, Durango, Mexico working with HALUSA ministries. The vision of HALUSA is to reach indigenous tribes who have never heard the gospel by befriending them and offering social work as an introduction to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
HALUSA is working with the Cora Indians in the mountains of Nayarit, Mexico, and the Tepehuan Indians in the mountains of Durango, Mexico. They visit these tribes as often as possible and also take teams of doctors, nurses, dentists, dental technicians, welders, and barbers several times a year to provide free assistance for the Indians.
Because the villages are located in remote parts of the mountains, aviation is the best way to reach them. Jerry has a Cessna plane he uses for this ministry. The aircraft is currently having repairs and modifications done in San Antonio, and will be back in the air within a few months.

Jerry & Rachel's Missions Heritage
Jerry III is a 4th generation missionary pilot. His great-grandfather, Walter Dave Witt, was flying in Mexico from the 1950's to 1960's. His grandparents, Jerry Witt Sr. and wife Nola, moved to Durango, Mexico over 40 years ago. At age 21, Jerry Sr. was shot down in his plane while dropping tracts over Zacatecas, Mexico. His wife Nola with 3 small boys carried on the work, and married Frank Warren a few years later. Together they raised up a great work in Mexico (Frank recently went home to be with the Lord, but Nola continues the ministry there). Jerry's dad, Jerry Witt Jr., also became a missionary pilot and began HALUSA. Although Jerry III grew up flying with his dad, it wasn't until he was in the States getting his pilot's license that he felt the call to reach indigenous people as well.
Rachel was raised in Houston, Texas, and is the daughter of Pastor Nathan and Patricia Hyman. She grew up in a family with a passion for missions. Great grandparents, John and Celia Dodge, were missionaries who traveled and ministered in many countries around the world. Her grandparents, Delmer and Juanita Hyman, were missionaries in Africa for some years. Rachel felt a call toward missions most of her life. She has traveled to China and Africa, but it was while she was on a missions trip to Durango, that she met Jerry and found the region where she felt called.
